Óscar Gil: “We have recharged our batteries”
Gil explains how important the mid-season break has been for the first team squad
Óscar Gil spoke to Espanyol Media following the first team squad’s return to training.
The RCD Espanyol squad were back at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque at the end of last week, following a period of rest for the World Cup break. With Diego Martínez’s men back in full training, the full-back commented on the positive impact of the time off.
Gil said, “The break has been good to recharge our batteries and focus again on what we left behind before this break. We are eager to start and correct the details that we were lacking before.
“The break has allowed us to reset without forgetting what we are doing. Beyond the results, we have done good things, but we are demanding and we know that we must take a step forward because they are costing us results and wins.”
Espanyol are back in competitive action in less than three weeks, when they continue their Copa del Rey campaign away to Atlético Paso. Before that, the squad will travel to southern Spain for an off-season training camp, where they will play two friendlies.
Gil said, “Yes, it was more than a pre-season which was good for us so we could have a reset. We were in a situation which we didn’t like and that we wanted to change and above all, to take it as a fresh start.”
He concluded, “We have five matches left of the first half of the season where we can turn the situation around and then focus on everything ahead. the friendlies can help us pick up rhythm, to be able to get those feelings that we will need for our first match back in the Copa del Rey then back on track in the league.”
