Optimistic and Confident
Calero “sure” that “we’re going to sort this out, sooner rather than later”
Fernando Calero today said that the side must put the defeat at the Bernabéu behind them and focus on what lies ahead. Without going into any more detail on the day after the team sunk to the bottom of the league, he argues that “we got ourselves into this situation and we need to get ourselves out of it. We have to be optimistic and start taking points.
He said that “we need to treat all our remaining games as cup finals” and that the objective is “win every point possible against any opponent in any stadium”. He says, therefore, that “the game against Betis is a new opportunity”.
He added that “we’re working hard to turn it around. We’re the first people to be angry about it. We understand how people feel, but even if they are angry, we ask them to keep supporting us because we’re going to sort this out, sooner rather than later”.
He acknowledges that “I’m not playing as well as in recent years” but he says he is determined to get back on track “in order to help the team”, and reaffirms that he has full confidence in the team and that “if it’s us that got ourselves into this situation, we have to get ourselves out of it”.
He emphasizes that the team needs to produce a “full performance, in which we play well for the full 90 minutes. If we can do that, then wins will come”, before adding that fighting in each game is at the front of everyone’s minds in the changing room.
