The season so far
Girona have been the best of the promoted sides and earned many plaudits for their attacking football, which sees them as the fourth-highest scorers in the league. However, just like Espanyol they had a rough March, with no wins in their last three outings and cautious of slipping down the table.
Standout player
Very few players have had an instant impact like Viktor Tsyhankov, who joined Girona at the start of 2023. The versatile winger and Ukraine international has been in scintillating form, with three goals and three assists in just seven league appearances.
Last time at the RCDE Stadium
Espanyol last hosted Girona at the start 2023 in what was an entertaining 2-2 draw at the RCDE Stadium. Javi Puado and Joselu turned around a first-half deficit for the pericos, but they were denied the three points by a late equaliser for the visitors.
Club links
It will be a special match for Espanyol Media’s Ángel Martínez, who represented both clubs during his career. The midfielder came up through the blanquiazul academy and made over 50 appearances for Espanyol, spending a season on loan back in his native Girona in 2010.
