Nutrition guidelines
First-team players too undergo strict daily monitoring during this lockdown
In addition to individualized training guidelines, mandatory lockdown due to COVID-19 also carries a number of other obligations for the players. While, from the first moment, the footballers received an exercise table as a daily routine, the same applies from a food perspective. First team nutritionist Robert Bausells is monitoring each player’s weight, and their perceived fatigue after a training session, on a daily basis. “We send them complete individual menus for each week (from Monday to Sunday, for four meals a day). We have sent them the vitamin supplements they need throughout the day and also the addresses of some food companies that can deliver the shopping to their home. It is a difficult time but we are dealing with it well”, he says.
He acknowledges that the nutritional guidelines he manages are very simple, “how to reduce carbohydrates and increase protein” because caloric use decreases significantly compared to a competition week. And he emphasizes that, with small details, “a satisfactory muscle mass is maintained” so that the players can arrive “in the best conditions when all this is over and they can return to normality”.
