No doubts
After progressing in the cup, Andrés Prieto points out that “the team is moving forwards” and declares himself convinced that “we are going to be fine”
The boost from the win in the second round of the Copa del Rey and the confidence Abelardo has shown since his first day in the job are rubbing off on the group and all the players are now convinced that they will be able to move up the league table.
Andrés Prieto, who started in the cup game, says that “we want to keep moving forward” and hopes that the team can extend the winning streak in the coming games. Despite his game time being limited until now, he says “we all want to play and the competition is tough, but we owe it to the club and ultimately it’s up to the coach to decide. I always give everything in training to make the boss’ decision a hard one, and wait for my opportunity. And when that opportunity comes it’s up to me to show that I have what it takes”. He continued, adding “I demand 100% from myself every day and I don’t concern myself with anything beyond that. And if I don’t play, I try to increase the competitivity for the position. Those of us that aren’t playing have to give everything so that the others are forced to be at their best, and this way we can get closer to survival”.
He says, “remaining in three competitions” should excite the group and reveals, “I’m one of those people that thinks that the more games you play, the better team you become”.
He highlights that “Abelardo has instilled confidence in the group from his first day and we’ll give everything for him” and lauded the masses of Espanyol fans that will travel to Villarreal at the weekend. “If it’s important for a team in our position to play to win, it’s even more important that we leave everything on the pitch for the fans that come to the game and for those that are at home supporting us”.
He comments that he has reason to believe that the team will improve its performances and signals, “we feel the confidence of the coach, the club and fans. We are all together. This group is incredible. I have never seen or felt such unity in a dressing room. In terms of confidence and energy, the derby against Barcelona gave us a massive boost. The team will keep moving forward. We are in no doubt that we are going to be just fine”.
