Nico Melamed: Ball Boy to First Team Key Player - Another Formative Football Success
In recent years, there have been dozens of players who have made their debut in the first team from the Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque, but Nico Melamed is a case that stands out among the others. Nico has become part of the club’s history due to two records: one that can be beaten by other young players in formative football - the youngest debut in the Europa League, and one that will permanently remain under his name - the first player born in the 21st century to play an official match in the RCD Espanyol de Barcelona team.
The player born in Castelldefels (Barcelona) in 2001, debuted during one of the most complicated years in the history of the club, but two years after his first match in the RCDE Stadium, he was a key player in the club's return to the highest category in national football. His renewal is further proof of the importance the club gives to the talent that comes through Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque.
Nico arrived at the club as a youth, and since then, he has been outstanding in all categories of the club and has taken in everything that each one of the club's coaching staff taught him. Since his arrival to the club, he has also taken part in the younger categories of the Spanish national team with the U-16s, U-17s and U-19s. Despite that, Argentina is also interested in Nico, as his mother is a native resident of the Latin American country with which his grandfather lifted the Copa Libertadores (American Liberators' Cup) and the Copa Intercontinental (Intercontinental Cup).
