Moreno: "We want to win"
Vicente Moreno looks ahead to the last home game of the year
Having taken 17 points at the RCDE Stadium, RCD Espanyol play their final home game of 2021 this weekend against Levante UD. Their opponents, bottom of the LaLiga table, will not be easy to beat, however, as coach Vicente Moreno commented in his press conference on Friday.
"You would be mistaken if you think that the game is easier than it really is. Levante are a team that I know well, and their situation shows you how difficult the Primera División is. They are a club who have grown and are working well, have great players and have had good coaches. They are the only team still to win a game, and that tells you how capricious football is. There have been games that were about to be won and which got away. In any case, we will focus on doing things well and winning the game," he said.
Asked about the change of coach for the opposition, Moreno noted the influence that this might have.
“The game has that difficulty as well, but it is what it is. You have to prepare and not make excuses. There are things that may be similar and others that will change, but we have prepared for this match and we must focus on what we can do."
In Espanyol's favour are their good numbers at home, which their coach acknowledged.
“It is special to play at home. The positive numbers are very good and we are amongst the best home sides, but there is always room for improvement and we are going to try to do that. It is going to be a difficult match, but we want to improve those statistics. We are going to need our fans to see that we are capable of putting on a good performance."
A curiosity is that Moreno was part of Levante UD in the formative stages of his career.
“I came from Levante. I started my training at Levante when I was 15-16 years old, and I played a friendly for the first team. It is a club that I have a lot of affection for, I know people who continue to work there and it is special to play against Levante, because they are from my region and I have many memories of there. I have followed the club a lot and it has grown a lot since then,” he reflected.
