Moreno: "We fulfilled our duty"

The coach praises the persistence of his side in their Copa del Rey progress

Vicente Moreno spoke after the win over Palencia Cristo Atlético in the Copa del Rey, reviewing a hard-fought victory that saw Espanyol progress to the next round.

“We made a mistake at the start, which cost us the goal, and we lacked forcefulness in attack. That strengthened the opposition," he explained.

"We continued to push, and it was important that we levelled in the first move of the second half. From that moment on, it was a matter of insisting. We are in the next round and, in that sense, our objective has been achieved."

The coach also highlighted the difficulty of the early rounds against lower division teams.

"They become attractive matches. With the initial error the match became more complicated, and gave our opponents more options than should be afforded. Every year you see these situations, in which Primera División teams are knocked out in the early rounds. That is why, for us, we give the importance to having fulfilled our duty in a competition that the fans and the club like."
