Montes: “I am another warrior joining the team”
César Montes speaks of his excitment at his presentation at the RCDE Stadium
César Montes was unveiled as an RCD Espanyol player on Thursday.
The 25-year-old defender signed for the club earlier this week, arriving on a six-year deal from Mexican side CF Monterrey. The newest member of the team was introduced at his presentation at the Juan Segura Palomares Auditorium at the RCDE Stadium.
Montés said, “I am very happy to be here at the club. I am another warrior who wants to achieve the collective objectives. Espanyol have shown trust in me and I have to respond in the same way.
“The important thing is that I am here, and I have to enjoy myself to give my best. I have seen a club that I identify with; it is a big institution but at the same time, humble and hard-working and that's why I'm here”.
The Mexican is the 11th signing of the season and the first to be completed in the winter transfer window. He joins up with Diego Martínez’s squad ahead of the restart of the LaLiga season, which begins for Espanyol with the Barcelona Derby on Saturday.
Montes will not be able to play in the derby, as it comes before the transfer window formally opens and he can be registered. “I have to support my teammates from the stands”, he explained, “I will approach what is to come with personality and courage. I am ready to support the team”.
Mao Ye, the Club’s CEO, said, “We hope to have his presence for many years. We have to congratulate him for crossing the pond and we hope that he can contribute a lot to the growth of the club”.
Domingo Catoira, Sporting Director, said, “He is one of the captains of the Mexican national team and he comes to reinforce the defence. I like to highlight his personality, his determination and his courage. We are very proud to have him as we add another warrior to the team”.
