Match Report: RCD Espanyol advance in Copa Catalunya
Los Pericos win 0-1 against CE Sabadell
An early goal by Leo Salazar, in the 5th minute, helped Espanyol to beat CE Sabadell and earn a place in the semi-finals of the Copa Catalunya.
Los Pericos fielded a string of players from the reserve team for the fixture, in order to give the regulars a rest. Nevertheless, they made a good start culminating in the first serious foray down the wing by Caroutas and a shot by Sadik that was saved by the goalkeeper. When the ball went loose, it allowed Leo Salazar to finish in cold-blooded style from inside the six-yard box.
The goal accelerated the pace of the home team, but without too many problems caused for RCD Espanyol.
Salazar had another opportunity similar to that of his goal, although this time his shot crashed into a defender.
A strike from Caroutas could have increased the lead, but the score remained unchanged going into the interval.
In the second half, the home side came closer to troubling Fortuño's goal, although without any notable chances.
Numerous changes by both coaches kept the pace lively, although the only clear opportunity was a spectacular overhead kick from Mingo that went wide, minutes before the final whistle.
