González: "We have to keep striving for excellence"
The coach eyes up the Matchday 31 game against Celta Vigo
Manolo González doesn't want to lose the momentum that came with last weekend's victory against Rayo Vallecano. The coach spoke in a press conference on Friday before RCD Espanyol's game against Celta Vigo, and said that "during the second half of the season, we've shown that we're growing. This game is completely separate from the one against Rayo. They're different opponents, but we'll try to minimise Celta's potential. They're a team that play very well, but we want to be as attacking as possible, like we were at Vallecas."
The coach reiterated that "we come into this one convinced we can win anywhere."
"In the first half of the season, we were a team who left a lot of space between the lines, and that made us unbalanced. We've improved a lot, and the improvement has been overall. We must continue this. On a footballing level, we're a better team now. We're doing well, but we have to keep picking up points. Our opponents aren't going to lose every week. We're very focused on ourselves. We're mentally focused and eager to continue growing between now and the end of the season."
He also points out that "we have to look at ourselves and get the club back to what it's been for many years. Now we want to earn the points necessary to stay up before the end of the season, if we can. We have to get points, no matter what. The victory the other day should give us more confidence, but tomorrow we have a demanding game and we have to keep striving for excellence until the end of the season. I never settle for a draw, so we'll be trying to win."
