Martínez: "We deserved the victory today"
The coach praises his team for their win over Real Betis
RCD Espanyol coach Diego Martínez reviewed an important victory against Real Betis with positive words about his team, noting that the result was the product of a continuous process this season.
“We had a great game in all facets, but to play like we did today we had to have experiences along the way to be aware of the important details required in the Primera Division. It was a match that went well in every aspect and we deserved the victory," he told the media.
"We went for the second goal. We had Cabrera header against the crossbar and the disallowed goal which were good chances. We all competed well -the players and the fans. They give you that boost when you lack strength."
Martínez remarked that “taking the lead gave us confidence, and it was the first time we'd done that. There were some very unusual situations before. We found our reward today, but that does not mean that we will always get it. This win reinforces the players' belief in the idea. Taking the lead is important, as is keeping a clean sheet. The matches have been very evenly balanced."
“What I liked the most is that we went for the second goal. The clearest chances belonged to us. Betis have a very high technical level, and our concentration was very high. We were attentive. We want to be chameleons, and we achieved solidity and consistency with another formation and other players. The changes gave us energy. We were running low on strength. What I liked the most is that the team were firm about the gameplan,” he concluded.
