Martínez: "The current mood is tough"
The RCD Espanyol coach reviews the 2-1 defeat to Girona
A dejected Diego Martínez spoke after the 2-1 defeat to Girona on Saturday, acknowledging that the team's morale was affected by the loss.
Speaking post-match at the Estadi Montilivi, Martínez said, “We are going to get through this. We believe in what we are doing and we are alive until the end of every match. When it was 2-1 we did not throw in the towel. The mood in the dressing room right now is tough to bear. We had high hopes for today, but we feel sorry for the fans".
He continued, "I am convinced that the team will achieve our goals for the season, but we must be clear that we will suffer until the end. I am the first person to take responsibility for defeats and the last to accept credit for victories. All my focus is on trying to lift the spirits of the dressing room".
The coach concluded, “We have never had a run of four defeats before. We know that we must suffer until the end, but at half-time we were where we wanted, we managed to re-engage, then from the 83rd minute onwards all the details went against us".
