Lozano: "It's a very important year for the club"
The fullback returns from loan with his sights set on promotion
After his successful loan at Granada CF last season, with whom he achieved his third consecutive promotion to LaLiga, Pol Lozano is back at RCD Espanyol ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The youth product is targetting a spot in the first team on a consistent basis this term, and he spoke in summer training to explain his ambitions and hopes for the season.
“When you start a season, you know what you can expect. The feeling in the group is that it is a very important year for the club. I have to say, there have been seasons here in which I did not feel that I was a major protagonist, although each player has their own value. In my case, I want to take a step forward -and to do that you have to be demanding on yourself in terms of your performance," reflected Lozano.
"Espanyol are an historic Primera División club, but we are in the Segunda División this season and we have to work accordingly. If we work as if we were in the top flight, I can say now -due to the experience I have in the category- that it will not work for us. You have to work and play according to this level, which is very tough. Every game is very difficult."
Lozano elaborated that "it is very difficult to generate chances in the Segunda División, but that maturity we have has to help us to be in the top positions and get promoted, which is the objective."
"Luis García is a coach who likes his sides to take the initiative and gives great importance to attack, but also to the defensive aspect."
