"I'm proud of the players"
Rufete says that the team has taken a step forward and insists on fighting to the end
Francisco Joaquín Pérez Rufete finished the game "proud" of his players despite the defeat against Real Madrid and added that he believes the team has taken a step forward, although he recognized that it will be increasingly difficult to avoid relegation. “We wanted to win and that's what we set out to do. Real Madrid are great rivals, but I am proud of my players who gave everything. They understood that, as a team, the players are strong. It's always getting harder. How the others do is starting to matter, but we faced up well to the game. At some points we needed to do more to get the ball. We had good formation, sacrificed a lot, and in the end, in such a difficult situation, it's all about moving forwards. We've taken a step forward. I missed the fans: when they're in the stadium, we don't lose", he said.
“I think the team could have done more, but given our context and where we've come from, I'm very happy with their efforts. We have to fight to the end, albeit the situation is difficult. There's room for improvement and there's no need to take steps backwards”, he concluded.
