The coach previews the game against Villarreal
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González says that “we want to grow with the ball and be more protagonists in possession, because we have the capacity to take a step forward," ahead of his team's Monday night game against Villarreal.
The coach, who praised the good work by the group on a daily basis, insisted that “the most important thing is to lay foundations. We have managed to shore up our defence well, and now we want to grow when we the ball, to be more protagonists. I think we have the capacity to take a step forward and achieve the objectives."
Regarding the opposition, he explained that “the key is to stay focused and remain as close as possible to being able to win the game. We have to control the opposition well, have personality and be brave. They are a very difficult team to play, who are capable of creating opportunities with their positioning and on the counterattack -where they have shown that they are very powerful."
The coach insists that “it will be a very difficult match and we have to be able to hold on and to give our all. It is a match in which we need to give 120 percent. And on a mental level, winning could give us a much bigger boost.”
Close to completing his first year in the dugout, González admits that “it has gone by very quickly."
"Not even in my wildest dreams could I have imagined this. It has all happened very quickly. It is a source of great pride and I hope I can be here for many years. I have to thank the fans for their support and the players, because without them I would not be here.”
