González: "We had to be positive"
The coach talks after the win over Alavés
Manolo González was delighted with the victory over Deportivo Alavés at Mendizorroza, but the RCD Espanyol coach was pragmatic nonetheless.
In his press conference, he said that “winning here was very difficult. We knew it would be. I think that, in the first half, except for a few moments, we played well. In the second it was harder for us because they were more direct in front of goal. We needed to hold on to the ball more. We had to resist.”
The coach stressed that “we had to be positive. It seems that everything that happens to Espanyol is bad. We have to try to get rid of that negative energy and start to be a little happier -and enjoy being at one of the biggest clubs in Spain.”
“We will not be calm until we are mathematically safe. Now we have to think about the next game, in Villarreal. We have to hold our horses, because bad times may come. If we can't win, we have to get a draw, but we need to try not to have another losing streak.”
Finally, he thanked the fans for their support, saying “the best thing about Espanyol, along with the club's history, is the fans. That's what I think. We were able to give them some joy. You couldn't ask for more.”
