González: "This win gives us peace of mind"
The coach reviews the win over RCD Mallorca
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González was delighted with the 2-1 win against RCD Mallorca, and expressed his feelings in a post-match press conference.
“It is an important victory -and one that gives us peace of mind. Even if you lose and you feel good, it doesn't matter, this is all about winning. If you make it 2-0, they score to pull back to 2-1 and you lose confidence, you get scared of losing what you have gained. Little by little, we are improving. We played our best 60 minutes of the season. With time and patience, we will continue to grow. The team believe in the gameplan. I'm very proud. We all work like beasts, and the team were very alive today.”
González added that “we had the chance to get a 3-0 lead, but we didn't score and they got into the game by doing very little. That is where our deficit lies. We have to correct it and we are working to do that.”
"We defended high up and we were very good with the ball. We have to be daring. I understand the players and we have to gain confidence. That comes with results. It is impossible to play all-out for 90 minutes. I take this opportunity to thank Fernando Calero, who has been training for two weeks with a limp and tendon problems to be available in Leandro Cabrera's absence. People don't know these things and it should be said. He is at risk of tearing a tendon and he wanted to be with the other players."
He concluded by saying "This is a team based on belief. They believe in what we do. The atmosphere is spectacular. Brian Oliván and Álvaro Aguado, and those who have not played, were right behind the team. If there is no team spirit, we are dead. Luckily, there is one. The fans have been spectacular and helped the team."
