González: "Everyone saw what happened"
The coach talks about penalties and the defeat to RCD Mallorca
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González expressed his discontent with his side's 2-1 defeat to RCD Mallorca, speaking in a press conference following the game.
“If I say what I think, I won't coach again. Everyone saw what happened. It was a difficult game, but we had it under control until the first penalty. From then on, strange situations started to happen,” González explained.
“For example, eight minutes were added on at the end of the game. A lot of things happened, and the game ended in the 98th minute. Things happened that I've never seen in my life.”
The coach also noted that “the players in the dressing room tell me there are precedents that date back two years. We're all really hurt. We competed, and you end up leaving looking stupid."
The coach acknowledged that “we needed to attack more in the first half. The game was very much in our favour at 0-1, and in the end, we ended up losing a game we didn't deserve to lose.”
He also joked about what was happening on the pitch, commenting, "For a moment, I thought it was the Copa del Rey and we were in a penalty shootout. This has never happened to me before. They didn't hesitate to give penalties, but when Jofre had an appeal it wasn't even reviewed. You can make a mistake, but if you look at it objectively, there's not much explanation."
Finally, he emphasised, "I'm sure we'll do enough to stay up. The team are in good form. As professionals, we have to work hard and get through this. What happened today is painful."
