González: "Espanyol have been a benchmark for me since I was a child"
The RCD Espanyol B coach gives his first press conference
Espanyol B coach Manolo González was officially presented this Tuesday in the press room at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque, and he talked about the decision to take on the new role.
“When Espanyol call you, everything else is superfluous. In terms of excitement, desire and commitment, there is no lack of that. It has taken many years of hard work to get to a place like Espanyol, which since I was a child I have looked at as a benchmark. I know the responsibility that the position entails, as we have to pick the team up and have a good year. I am convinced that it will be a great season for everyone. My motivation is through the roof," González told the media.
"In terms of how strong the club are and the name that they have, it is undoubtedly the biggest challenge I've had. Since I started coaching, I had the goal of taking over at Espanyol."
Asked about his style of play, he pointed out that “I like to win and don't like to lose. I spent seven years in the Division de Honor in Badalona and the team played quite well. Then you go to Montañesa field, Pomar or Montigalà and you can't play the same way, so you have to adapt to get results. There has been an evolution. It will be necessary to promote the young players and look for the team to identify with a certain idea of the playing style, outside of a set formation."
"The players must feel that being at Espanyol is the best option there is, and that the jump to the first team is not a big one. There we also fit in with Luis (García)'s plans. We will work in different structures, but with an idea that helps the first team for when the players have to be promoted."
