González: "Espanyol are where the club deserve to be"
The coach talks after promotion to LaLiga
Gathering his entire coaching staff in the press conference room to give recognition to their efforts, RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González spoke after the playoff final win against Real Oviedo and promotion to the top flight.
"I value the coaching staff. When we haven't performed in this division, people begin to doubt. It's normal. I'm very proud of everybody at Espanyol. Espanyol are where the club deserve to be, with our history," he summarised.
“The important thing is that the club are in the Primera División. I came to Espanyol because I always wanted to come here. I lost money and status, but I didn't care. I came here to do my job. I always said that I came to work like a beast and to get the team through, with a brave team that pushes up top."
“Today is something I will never forget. I will always remember it with great affection. We worked tremendously hard and today is a day to be very happy. Thank you very much to all the Pericos for helping us a lot,” he continued by saying.
“I was expecting us to go up. I have always been positive. I always believed in the players and the people I had by my side. It was all about going up and we have achieved it. We have been very brave and we took our chances. It was the key to opening up the game in the first half. The chances we had were enough for us.”
González thanked the players for their trust in his strategy, saying: “Thanks to the players, for their respect for my ideas and for the work done. If it hadn't been like this, I would have left in the first week. I don't care about the opinion of someone who calls me mediocre. I only worry about the people who know me; And those who know me, know that we work hard and that we are competitive.”
"I will always remember the end of the game. That's when you say 'that's it, you can breathe now, the team are in the Primera División.' That is, for me, the standout moment of the three and a half months I have experienced here."
