García: "We made a tremendous effort, but things didn't go our way"
The coach's assessment of the 3-1 loss to Real Betis
Despite defeat at the Benito Villamarín to Real Betis on LaLiga Matchday 29, RCD Espanyol coach Luis García expressed that he still believes in his team's chances of survival.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, he said that “the team started well, but we didn't finish well and, from there, they took the lead. We are in a situation in which we feel the emotional blows that we suffer but, after the break, the team recovered and we were closer to making it 2-2 than they were to going 3-1 up. We made a tremendous effort, but things didn't go our way. We have to keep working. We are mentally strong. The road will be long, but I'm sure that we will make it."
The coach stressed that “I have seen evolution compared to last week and I hope that the team improve in some aspects. You have to attack and defend at the same speed, but today we put in an amazing effort. We have to think about the next battle now, because this does not stop."
He insisted to journalists that “we want to go back to work tomorrow and lift the players up. They are warriors and they will do what they can, as they showed today. Nobody can give up. We have to take away the positive things, but people know that a Perico never give ups. We are going to fight until the last minute of the last game."
