García: "The team needed a victory"
A pleased RCD Espanyol coach analyses the 2-0 win over Racing Santander
Luis García expressed his satisfaction with the 2-0 scoreline against Racing Santander, which earned RCD Espanyol their first win of the season on their home debut.
"We did many things well, especially in the second half. We were closer to making it 3-0 than they were to making it 2-1. You have to value this victory against a great side," he told the media in a post-match press conference.
"We cannot forget that we were playing against a side that won 4-0 against Eibar, a candidate to be at the top of the table. What I'll take away from this is the commitment of the players, their desire to improve and the result, obviously. It's easier to correct things when you've won."
The coach also reiterated that “the team needed a victory because we have just been relegated and we always hear that we are favourites to go back up. All of these things are stones along the road. We must be aware that this will be a very long season."
García has also indicated that playing behind closed doors “is always negative, but even more so here because the fans help us so much in bad times. Football is for the fans. Without them, this sport makes no sense."
