The RCD Espanyol coach recognises Friday's clash with Cádiz is crucial in the team's fight for survival
Everyone knows what is at stake in Friday night’s clash against Cádiz CF, but coach Luis García insists that it is vital but not a final.
RCD Espanyol kick off matchday 30 at the RCDE Stadium with a huge six-pointer, facing off against another side in the relegation battle. Speaking to the media on Thursday afternoon, the head coach praised the team’s work during the week and the excitement ahead for the upcoming encounter.
García said, “The team really cannot wait to compete. It has been a fantastic week of training, and the players are very clear on the game plan that we have. We reinforced our strengths from the other day, and a win would be a huge boost in terms of confidence. We are clear about what we must do and we want to get the win”.
Espanyol and Cádiz go into the Friday night match four points apart and separated by two teams, as the relegation battle heats up going into the final nine matches. The Mágico know that it is a must-win match in front of the blanquiazul fans, but the míster dismissed claims that it is a final for his team.
He explained, “It is undoubtedly a key match for us. It is not a final but a really important match nonetheless, and it is vital that we get a result. The fans are always there for us, and they will never let us down. We have to handle this situation well on an emotional level, the fans will bring a lot of passion and we must do the same”.
García concluded, “It is a match that can be won in the first or the 90th minute, but it can also be lost in the first or the 90th minute. Whoever has the right mental balance will prevail. However, I am not thinking beyond tomorrow's match. The players have done an extraordinary job and I am convinced that tomorrow will be an exciting day”.
