Garcia: “I am convinced that we will do it”
The RCD Espanyol coach has full belief in the squad for the match against Getafe CF
With a relegation six-pointer on Sunday against Getafe, RCD Espanyol coach Luis García has nothing but full confidence and belief in his players.
Despite a damning midweek defeat away to Villarreal, the Mágico feel ready for this weekend’s match at the RCDE Stadium where they can move above opponents Getafe with a victory, therefore taking a step closer to survival.
Speaking from the Temple on Saturday, García said, “The team is very prepared, and we are feeling very positive despite the defeat midweek. We have a lot at stake and the group is aware and knows how important getting three points tomorrow is. We want to win again and get a victory at home”.
Espanyol will be without the suspended César Montes and Edu Expósito, while José Gragera misses out through injury.
However, the big team news is the return of Brian Oliván, who has been out injured since the defeat to Real Valladolid at the beginning of March. His return is vital for the Mágico, who are without a win since the left-back was substituted early on in Valladolid.
Espanyol and Getafe are separated by just three points and both occupy the relegation zone, so labelling Sunday’s clash a six-pointer is almost an understatement.
García continued, “it will not be saying goodbye [to survival if they fail to win], but if we do not get the victory, our chances will be greatly reduced. The players are determined, confident and wanting to do well, wanting to play and enjoy a victory because I am convinced that we are going to achieve it.
“We have to focus a lot on ourselves, we cannot look for excuses elsewhere. We must win tomorrow and from then on everything will look different. There is a lot at stake, we are in a compromised situation, and I am convinced that we will do it and get the win”.
García concluded, "Both the players and the fans deserve happiness, to get a victory that brings us closer to other teams and get us hooked on that path we want to find. We will leave the pitch with bloodshot eyes because we will risk our lives. When you risk your life, you give everything and more”.
