Gallego, our new coach!
He joined the club in 2013 and has held an outstanding career leading the U-19 and U-23 team
David Gallego (Suria, 26-1-1972) will be the coach of the first team of the RCD Espanyol of Barcelona for the next two seasons. Gallego reaches this position after a long and successful career as a coach in our youth academy. In his six seasons in the club he won the Third Division -and the later promotion to Second Division B-, two leagues with the U-19 and runner-up of the U-19 Spanish Champions Cup. In addition, he’s always played a key role in the training of skilled players.
Gallego had a long career as a player. The Catalan played in the First Division with Recreativo de Huelva, but he also played in Hospitalet, Manlleu, Hercules, Terrassa, Cordoba or Sant Andreu before retiring in Badalona.
As a coach, he began his career in the CE Súria before arriving in 2013 at the RCD Espanyol de Barcelona took charge of the U-19. He won two league titles and a runner-up in the U-19 Spanish Champions Cup. In the 2016-2017 campaign, he took charge of U-23, replacing Lluís Planagumà. Conditioned by the loss of important players and with a very young squad, they ended up losing the category. However, a year later they get the promotion to Second Division B. The present course has been practically unbeatable with the team fighting until the end for the playoff.
Beyond the merely sporting results it is necessary to emphasize the amount of players who have arrived at the first team after being important as much in the U-19 as in the U-23. Marc Roca, Melendo, Aarón, Marc Navarro, Pipa, Álex López, Puado, Pedrosa or Lluís López are some of the footballers who have trained with David Gallego before debuting with the first team.
Gallego is a coach who bets on offensive football, and tries to generate advantages and spaces from the possession without forgetting the defensive aspects and that, in addition, works meticulously the strategy. Energetic, brave and with a great vision to understand the game, the coach of Suria is well-known for improving both individual and collective performances groups.
David Gallego will be presented as the new coach of the first team of RCD Espanyol de Barcelona this Friday at 12 pm in the auditorium Juan Segura Palomares in an exclusive act for club’s accredited media only.
