Diego Martínez: “We will keep improving and progressing with this attitude”
RCD Espanyol coach reflects on friendly defeat to Torino FC
RCD Espanyol coach Diego Martínez spoke to Espanyol Media after Saturday’s friendly defeat to Torino.
Espanyol were edged out 1-0 by the Serie A side, in their first off-season friendly at the Pinatar Arena. The coach reflected on the performance, insisting that there are positives and praising the group’s mentality.
Martínez said, “The most important thing is that there were no injuries. We are learning concepts, we competed against a good opponent, and this helps us to pick up the pace and create a good feeling. It's a pity we didn't take advantage of the chances we had, but the team put in a good effort.”
Saturday saw the team’s first match in a month, giving them the opportunity to pick up fitness ahead of the return to competitive action on 20th December.
Martínez added, “The attitude was always, is and will be magnificent: 20 out of 10. The team has that spirit of rebellion and with that attitude we will keep improving and progressing.”
Espanyol will play their second and final off-season friendly on Wednesday, facing Belgian side KV Mechelen in Murcia.
