Diego Martínez: “We have shown that we never give up”
The míster speaks in his first pre-match press conference of 2023 ahead of the Copa del Rey
Diego Martínez assured that all focus is now on Tuesday’s Copa del Rey tie against Celta.
RCD Espanyol kick off 2023 with a round of 32 clash against fellow LaLiga opposition, beginning the year in front of the fans at the RCDE Stadium. Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday evening, the coach made it clear that all eyes were on the next match.
Martínez said, “The match against FC Barcelona is over and our concentration must be on approaching this new match. The team has always had great intensity and generosity, they have shown that they never give up and that they always respond to adversity”.
He added, “We must improve at all times. Every time we put on this shirt, we must reach our best level. I hope that it can help us get back into the habit of winning. Celta are a team with a lot of imbalances, who play very good football. It is a high-level match against a very strong opponent.
“We are going to compete at our ground and that must motivate us, it has to give us an extra boost, something, extra energy”.
Espanyol come off the back of a superb point in the Barcelona derby on New Year’s Eve, and pick up where they left off in the Copa del Rey. They have beaten CD Rincón and Atlético Paso to get to this stage, now facing top-flight opposition for the first time in the competition this season.
Finally, on the recent situation regarding the Club’s challenge to the RFEF regarding Barça player Robert Lewandowski, Martínez said, “I align myself with the Club in everything he deems appropriate".
