Diego Martínez: “It will be a demanding match”
The coach recognises the challenge ahead for Sunday's trip to Elche
Diego Martínez has insisted that he fully trusts and believes in the team ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash against Elche.
After a Monday night defeat at home to Real Sociedad, RCD Espanyol travel down to Alicante for a vital match in the LaLiga table. Speaking to the media on Saturday morning, the coach looked ahead and gave team news for the weekend.
Martínez said, “I am convinced of the character of this team, I am proud of how they face adversity. We believe in ourselves and our process, and we must be ready for any situation. This team is always able to win against any opponent. A final is another thing and tomorrow is not one, it will be a difficult match like any other in LaLiga”.
Elche sit bottom of the league with visiting Espanyol just outside the relegation zone, with both teams in desperate need of the three points at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.
“The details will make the difference”, the mister explained. “It will be a tough, difficult match. We are prepared to suffer, but also to offer our best version. The team who best knows how to get their moment is the one who will get the points”.
Martínez concluded, “We believe in the team and what they are doing. These situations are forming a character and a mentality that will benefit us in the future. My mentality is not to look beyond the next match and know that the team is capable of getting points anywhere. It will be a match that will demand the best of ourselves”.
