Carreras: "I want to give everything for the club that has given me everything"
The youth product celebrates promotion to the first team
Jofre Carreras has made a rapid rise through the ranks at RCD Espanyol. The winger arrived at Infantil level, and since this summer he has been a first team player for all intents and purposes. His registration for the first team proper was celebrated in an event on Wednesday, which recognised both his success and that of the club's youth system.
“This is a dream come true for me. I work hard so that we have days like this. It is a unique opportunity,” said Carreras, who was accompanied by Carles Casanova, administrative manager of youth football at RCD Espanyol and one of the people who has shared in the player's progress.
“You're an Espanyol player whether you wear the badge on your chest or not. This is my home and I will try to do my best. I want to give everything for the club that has given me everything."
Jofre also remembered his father, who died last year.
“This is for my father. I think about him every day. It is also dedicated to my mother,” he said.
"I did not have an easy year on loan at Mirandes, but I knew that I wanted to work as hard as possible to stay at the club. We young players who come up to the first team must be an example for those who look up to us. I would love to become an Espanyol legend. If we earn promotion, I will get a tattoo of the date of that day."
The club's CEO, Mao Ye Wu, board member, Rafa Marañón, sporting director, Fran Garagarza, first team coach, Luis García, Carreras' teammates Nico Melamed, Joan García and Pol Lozano, youth football coordinator, Mikel Azparren, patron of the RCD Espanyol Foundation, Antoni Giménez, club ambassadors Raúl Longhi, Toni Blanch and Thomas N'Kono and various employees at the club all accompanied Jofre on a very special day.
