Blanco: “We are confident that we can turn it around”
The RCD Espanyol B coach has faith for the play-off second leg at Atlético de Madrid B
After a narrow defeat last week, RCD Espanyol B coach Luis Blanco believes that his team can overturn the deficit against Atlético de Madrid B on Sunday.
The young pericos were beaten 1-0 at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque last week, in a tightly contested first leg in the Segunda RFEF play-off semi-final. They now make the trip to the capital for the second leg, behind but not out of the question at all.
Blanco said, “We are in the middle of the tie: it is the break. We have had a week to be able to adjust things, prepare for the match and be able to face that second part. It is true that we are at a disadvantage, but we are confident and we believe that we can progress and win the tie”.
Espanyol have had a solid season in the Spanish fourth tier, and played out an enticing first leg on home soil against another adept B team. Blanco trusts his players, a young squad but one which has earnt a lot of credit for their performances this season.
He continued, “We are confident that we can turn it around. This season we have experienced all kinds of moments – the good and the bad - but when we have been 100% on an emotional and sporting level, we have been able to beat any opponent”.
Blanco concluded by saying, “I expect a similar match to last time out, although it is true that they arrive with a favourable result. They dominate different scenarios and can be more or less aggressive, since they go into it with a lead. I expect a difficult Atlético, but we will have to adapt to the situation and compete in the best way possible”.
