Aleix V.C: “We are working very well”

Aleix praises the group's work ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Mechelen

Aleix Vidal spoke to the media on Tuesday, ahead of RCD Espanyol’s friendly against KV Mechelen the following day.

Espanyol are at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia for their second and final off-season friendly against the Belgian side, before heading back to Barcelona later this week.

Aleix said, “I have always considered myself as part of the team. The important thing is that, when I had to do things, I was available to the group and continue to be. I am able to provide experience and the manager is the ideal coach for the situation of the club and the team today.”

The 33-year-old has played a solid support role to Diego Martínez’s squad this season, with his versatility and experience proving to be valuable assets to the squad. Espanyol return to action next week, first with the Copa del Rey tie against Atlético Paso and then the derby against FC Barcelona on New Years’ Eve.  

On the derby, Aleix commented, “We cannot underestimate the opponents we must face beforehand, we still have the Copa del Rey. The derby will be important and many people are waiting for it, but it would be a mistake and a lack of respect to think of another game before the next opponents.

He added, “This preparation is going well for the team. We are working very well. During the season we have done some things well and others not so well. We are trying to fix those mistakes.”
