Aguado: "I have a great desire to contribute"
The new signing talks in his official presentation
Álvaro Aguado was officially presented as a new RCD Espanyol player at the Stage Front Stadium on Wednesday. The midfielder told the media that he arrives “with a great desire to contribute, with the utmost humility. We are prepared to achieve our objective.”
Acknowledging that both the club CEO, Mao Ye Wu, and Sporting Director, Fran Garagarza, were key to the signing, he said that "they have been very stubborn."
Aguado revealed that he has stayed in shape under watchful eye of his brother - his fitness trainer - during an atypical situation in which he was a free agent.
“Because I'm young, it was a very complicated situation because it was the first time it had happened to me. It took me a long time to find a club for many reasons, but I am here now. I wanted to take firm and safe steps forward, and that is why the decision was delayed further,” he added.
"I chose to come to RCD Espanyol because of the team, the city, the stadium and the fans."
Aguado talked about his ambitions, which begin with taking RCD Espanyol back to the top flight.
"The season is very long and it would be a mistake to think that promotion will be achieved in January. I love the pressure, I'm the first to put it on myself, but you have to keep in mind that the division is very tough. I'm ambitious and want to play in the Primera Division, which is what the club want as well; I want to consolidate myself in the Primera Division and I can do that at this club."
Garagarza also commented that it was not easy to get the deal over the line.
"We wanted a player with experience, a profile that would help us achieve our objective. We had that very much in mind and, although it dragged on, I'm very satisfied that we were able to sign the player we wanted.”
