A final at the Reale Arena
Abelardo says that “it’s exciting to be playing in three competitions” and reaffirms that the squad “should enjoy” the game against Real Sociedad
This Wednesday’s cup game at the Real Arena will not hinder Abelardo’s work. The coach made clear that he was delighted that the team will have another opportunity to continue getting used to his demands, and added with a hint of irony that “we’re playing in a final…the team that loses won’t continue in the competition”.
He assures us that he will put out “the best team possible” and said “we’re excited by the prospect of progressing in three competitions. We’re playing against Real Sociedad, a great team. That’s enough to motivate us. So I’m sure that we’ll be able to give a good account of ourselves”.
He says, “Playing a football match is the best thing there is. It’s never a hassle or a burden. We should enjoy this game against a team like Real Sociedad. I’m proud, as Espanyol’s coach, to be able to participate in a match like this”.
He insists “I haven’t thought for a minute about the game on Saturday” and praised his squad’s attitude as “excellent”.
Finally, with regards to the club’s recent signings, he adds, “The Sporting Director and his team are doing a great job. I’ve said before that I didn’t ask Rufete for any signings or specific players. The recent confidence-boost isn’t just a result of recent signings but also of the support the fans have given us in the game against Barcelona and also in the game against Villarreal. People have really got behind the team. We’ve started to do the right things but we know that there’s a long and difficult road ahead of us. We have to be competitive, because if we’re not, we won’t get out of the situation we’re in.
