Espanyol thrash Fuenlabrada for a convincing and well-deserved victory

Espanyol have now notched up three matches in a row after a clear and convincing victory against an uplifted Fuenlabrada side due to their latest results. Vicente Moreno’s side set out to win the match from the kick-off with a lot of confidence and determination. RDT, Embarba and an own goal by the visitors after a superb play by Sergi Darder, led the white and blues to half-time with a comfortable lead, and the match practically sealed.

Espanyol started strongly knowing that CF Fuenlabrada were coming in high spirits after their two last wins against CD Leganés and RCD Mallorca. The truth is that the team led by Vicente Moreno faced a persistent rival that didn’t hesitate to move forward and attack when they had a chance. Mula was a threat in all set-piece moves like the last time both teams met. However, at the peak of their morale, the white and blues made it clear that they were playing for the three points. Espanyol created many chances: off the post, corners, crosses from both wings... Superb!

And if that weren’t enough, the key move of the match came shortly after the first fifteen minutes. RDT’s header was stopped by Nteka’s hand to prevent Espanyol from taking the lead. The VAR’s decision was a red card and a penalty was given. RDT remained composed and put the white and blues in front. So, with the extra man advantage, and most of all with a very ambitious frame of mind, Espanyol set out to take the victory. Embarba took advantage of a great pass by David López to extend the lead, and before the break, Sergi Darder’s outstanding match resulted in an own goal by Fuenlabrada. This topped off a spectacular first half by the two Espanyol players.

As expected, the pace wasn’t the same in the second half, even though Fuenlabrada tried to create opportunities up front. The continual changes by both teams were also influential as to how the match transpired. However, Espanyol kept their composure and continued to create chances up front. A good break by Dídac, who did far more than just fill in for Pedrosa, ended up at RDT’s feet. The number ‘11’ kept cool and put away the fourth. Vicente Moreno took advantage of the circumstances to give some other less regular players a chance who must participate in this final stretch of the season. Espanyol’s third win in a row keeps them cruising along at the top of the table. Bring on Albacete!
