3-4: Tough defeat late on
RCD Espanyol narrowly beaten by Terrassa FC
RCD Espanyol B lost 4-3 to Terrassa FC at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque on Sunday.
Luis Blanco’s boys returned to action in the Segunda RFEF following the winter break, sitting second in the league two points off the top. Visitors Terrassa sat mid-table going into the match, chasing a play-off position and backed by a strong away following.
Abde Damar had the first chance of the evening as his volley was headed clear by the defender. But Terrassa would capitalise straight away by going 2-0 up inside 12 minutes, taking the lead through goals from Lucas Viña and Carlos Martínez.
Espanyol would not let the shellshock stop them, going up the other end and pulling one back. Raul Dacosta weaved his way through the defence on a solo run, slotting it through Marcos Pérez’s legs at the near post to reduce the deficit.
Right as the young pericos had got back into it, Terrassa added a third when Aythami Perera rounded goalkeeper Lisardo and tucked it away. The match settled down afterwards, with Blanco making an early switch to bring Javier Lancho on, but Espanyol had to react going into the break with a two-goal deficit.
Espanyol wasted no time at all after the restart, and found themselves pulling one back inside two minutes. A great ball in by Kenneth Soler came in close to the keeper but in the perfect position for Juan Camilo Becerra, who powered his header into the net.
Abde’s effort was bound for the top corner were it not for a flying save from Pérez, but the chances were certainly there. After much persistence, they did find the equaliser when Lancho reacted first and headed it into the bottom corner to make it 3-3.
The hosts had the momentum until the match was turned on its head, when goalkeeper Lisardo was sent off for a last-man challenge outside the box. Terrassa would score from the resulting free-kick through Perera and restore their lead late on, snatching the win for the visitors despite a spirited comeback by Espanyol B.
