3-0: The roll continues!
Javi Puado leads the team and RDT supplies the goals
Espanyol convincingly settled Málaga’s visit to the Cornellà-El Prat. Vicente Moreno’s team earned another victory after beating the side from Málaga, which came to play a very serious match, but found themselves against a rival in sublime form and with plenty of confidence. Puado had another blinding match, and Raúl de Tomás (RDT) found the back of the net again after breaking his goal duck after a few matches.
Málaga had a livelier start to the match than previous rivals in the RCDE Stadium, and Espanyol couldn’t deploy all their offensive potential either. Sergio Pellicer’s side, which is one of the best visiting sides in the league, showed that they didn’t come to make it easy for the white and blues in their home stadium. What’s more, Vicente Moreno’s side weren’t exactly subtle either as to how the match unfolded, nor in the defensive area. However, their level of confidence is such that the locals hardly need to set up scoring opportunities.
The first attempt was Dimata’s forced shot that flew over the bar. The second chance was a great goal by RDT following Puado’s solo move. The forward from Madrid ended his bad roll to put the white and blues ahead. The story of the match didn’t change much: Espanyol continued without seeming to be overly precise, but it was enough for them to beat a disrespectful Málaga side that wanted to create goal-scoring opportunities at all times. However, the white and blues notched up another goal that was produced from a strategical corner. Embarba’s superb cross to Puado was finished off with a fantastic header. Diego López wasn’t bad either in the previous play to stop Escassi’s effort. The third goal could have come before the break in a lethal counter attack involving two white and blues, but Dimata was stopped while moving into the box.
The second half only brought a few incidents. Espanyol didn’t have a brilliant half, but they were very dangerous when moving into the opposition half. The locals had several opportunities to add to the scoreboard, but Javi Puado had to appear again to set up RDT, who sealed the match. A great victory by the team led by Vicente Moreno, which is one win away from mathematical promotion
