3-0: No option
Espanyol defeats Osasuna in a good match with goals by Caicedo, Jurado and Gerard
After two consecutive defeats, Espanyol won again in a very comfortable match against Osasuna. Despite the first minutes, the white and blue team didn’t giove any option to their rival and thanks to the goals of Caicedo, Jurado and Gerard achieved another three important points.
Quique, once again, decided to do some changes in his line up. Marc Navarro was recovered and finally made it to play against Osasuna. However, the biggest surprise was to see David López in the midfield with Jurado and Óscar Duarte in the back as against R. Madrid. The manager decided to repeat again with Caicedo and Gerard as strikers.
Osasuna started a bit better than Espanyol and during the first minutes the visitants had the ball. Therefore, the white and blue defence didn’t give any chance to Osasuna and the locals started to play. Gerard Moreno had the first opportunity with a header that Sirigu blocked without trouble. The striker tried again in the next action and finally Caicedo got the goal after a good pass from Hernán Pérez. Espanyol had an incredible chance to increase their lead on the scoreboard but Caicedo missed a penalty. In the previous action Oier was sent off after fouling Gerard. Espanyol kept dominating but without creating many clear chances to add another goal before half time.
Things changed after the break. Hernán Pérez forced a new corner kick and Jurado with a defender’s help scored the second for Espanyol. Osasuna, that was playing with ten men, didn’t show any power of reaction while the locals had the match under control despite they didn’t have many options to score. Only Piatti and Diego López with two long shots put Sirigu in some trouble. Gerard, in the last action of the match, got the third.
The victory was never in danger and Espanyol got three very important points to stay near the top.
