3-0: Monday night delight
RCD Espanyol bounce back to take all three points at home to Racing Club Ferrol
RCD Espanyol secured a comfortable 3-0 home win against Racing Club Ferrol on Monday night.
Eager to avenge themselves after a first defeat last week to Tenerife, the Mágico were straight on the attack and launching an intense press on the visitors. Nico Melamed fired his effort over the bar while Fernando Pacheco had to get down quickly to deny Josep Señé’s header.
Newly promoted Racing Ferrol were just as eager to break through and strike first, but found themselves reduced to 10 men when Moi Delgado saw red for a high tackle on Omar El-Hilali. The player advantage allowed the hosts to take firmer control of the match, capitalising four minutes from the break thanks to Martin Braithwaite.
Espanyol started the second half as they ended the first: by scoring. A delightful through ball from Pol Lozano was slotted home by Pere Milla, celebrating in style in honour of becoming a father and doubling the Mágico’s lead with a lovely goal.
Now with a comfortable lead at the Stage Front Stadium, Espanyol could control the game as they pleased and neutralise any opposition attack. Racing did do their best to find a way back through, but the home defence stood strong to any potential threat.
Some fresh legs helped Luis García’s side to maintain their grip of the game, and they made sure of their lead when Braithwaite collected the ball, drove through past the defender and fired it into the bottom corner for his second goal of the evening.
Three goals, three points and a clean sheet capped off a perfect evening for Espanyol, which sees the team return to the automatic promotion places. The first of three games in the next week ends in victory for the pericos in a convincing display at the Stage Front Stadium.
