2-4: Golden points
Espanyol comes back to defeat Sporting de Gijón in a good match
Espanyol faced a very difficult match this Saturday against Sporting de Gijón. The two teams needed the points to get out of the dangerous zone so everybody expected a very tight match. Hopefully, Galca’s team was able to win a direct rival after a great second half in which the white and blue squad scored three goals to defeat their opponent.
The match started with a good opportunity for Burgui who didn’t find the way to score against Cuéllar. As the match advanced, the locals started to attack more and approach Pau’s goal. The goalkeeper, after two great saves, saw how Castro was able to beat him. Espanyol recovered quickly after the goals and Asensio and Gerard enjoyed good opportunities to equal the match. But it was Burgui, after a great slalom, who just before the half time scored the first goal for the ‘pericos’.
The second half started with great news for the white and blue team. Gerard took advantage of a good pass by Javi López to score the second goal. A few minutes after, the striker was able to get another one in the net with a great shot. It looked like Espanyol was going to have an easy win AS every attack of the white and blue team was dangerous.
However, the match changed again when Carlos Castro connected a good pass from Jonny and scored the second goal for the home team. Espanyol suffered during a few minutes. The white and read team had great opportunities to score another goal, but Pau was lucky and the cross bar helped him to leave the result as it was. In a fast break, Marco Asensio, with the help of a defender, scored the fourth goal for Espanyol. In the last minutes, Sporting lost Nacho Cases who was sent off after a hard tackle over Marco Asensio. Galca’s boys didn’t suffer and were able to control the match until the end. Three important points for RCD Espanyol that has been able to win two matches in the row.
