Two genius goals by Sergi Darder and Nico Melamed earn Espanyol the three points

Espanyol take a step forward in accomplishing the objective. In a high voltage match with multiple alternatives, goals and controversy, the team led by Vicente Moreno earned the three points against a rival that caused many problems. Two great goals by Darder and Melamed gave Espanyol the victory, which makes five consecutive wins and stabilises their position at the top of the league table.

With hardly enough time to switch on the TV, or take a seat, Sergi Darder picked up a stray pass from the Leganés keeper, Riesgo, to score a goal... well, more like a fantastic goal, to give Espanyol the lead. A lot of credit goes to Dimata who fought to gain possession of a ball that others would have let pass by. Not even 30 seconds into the match, and Vicente Moreno's team put themselves in front on the scoreline. Anyone would have thought that the match was going to be a walk in the park for the home side, but the game didn’t turn out that way at all. Far from falling apart, Leganés had a similar opportunity in the play that followed, but an extraordinary save by Diego López stopped Leganés from levelling the scoreline.

The visitors overcame the pressure with relative ease and it was evident that their game were threatening for the home side. Espanyol hadn’t settled into the match, but a combination between RDT and Embarba resulted in the second scoring opportunity: a clear penalty due to Omerua’s handball incident. But RDT couldn’t take advantage from the spot. The second attempt came shortly after, but the shot by David López was well stopped by Asier Riesgo. Many blows were exchanged until the final whistle, which fortunately didn’t result in any injuries for Espanyol.

Vicente Moreno's side had a good start to the match with two good opportunities for RDT who was always lurking with intent. The white and blues seemed to have the match under control until some sloppy play somewhat luckily and highly controversially led to Miguel’s equaliser. Espanyol tried to regroup in order to create chances again. RDT kept looking for a chance to score, but it was Melamed who had the best one with a clear shot that sailed over the bar when it looked like a goal. But the number ‘33’ made up for it with another sensational goal for the side after a decent cross by K. Bare. The white and blues had to stick it out until the end, but the three points ended up staying in the RCDE Stadium. Let’s go!
