2-1: First victory
Espanyol got the three points thanks to the goals of Gerard and Piatti
Espanyol needed to finish with the doubts created after the last two defeats in LaLiga. After losing to Leganés and Barcelona, Quique’s players wanted to get a good result against Celta. The truth is that the team managed by Quique Sánchez Flores had a brilliant start and soon created good opportunities to score. Aarón and Piatti, from the left, assisted twice for Gerard and Leo Baptistao that couldn’t connect good headers. It was Gerard who has the best opportunity to score after a great pass from Baptistao but he missed when the Stadium was nearly celebrating the goal.
The Catalan striker took the revenge a few minutes after when he scored the first goal of the night after receiving a good pass from Baptistao. Espanyol kept attacking and soon Piatti doubled the lead with a good goal. Celta didn’t do much in the first half, therefore Iago Aspas had two good opportunities that could have change a bit the match.
Espanyol didn’t change their attitude after the half time and the team kept pushing. Maybe the team didn’t have chances as clear as in the first half but the crowd enjoyed themselves with the performance. But when everything seemed under control Celta got in the match with a lucky goal. Espanyol suffered until the last minute to get the first victory.
