2-1: Crazy final minutes
A great goal by Reyes gives Espanyol another victory
Espanyol had to wait until the last minute to defeat R. Betis in a very tight match. The green and white team got in front of the scoreboard thanks to a penalty converted by Rubén Castro. However, when everything seem lost, Javi Fuego got the equaliser and a few minutes after was José Antonio Reyes who got the ball into the back of the net.
Quique was able to count again with Pablo Piatti who missed last game against Eibar. The manager had to do some changes in his line-up as he couldn’t count with Óscar Duarte, out for the rest of the season. David López was back to defence with Diego Reyes who as Caicedo were out the last week with their National Teams. Espanyol had a great start and was close to score in the first action of the match.
However, after the first chance the match entered in a different phase. Betis started to play better and even tried to surprise with two long distance shots that didn’t cause much trouble to Diego López. Espanyol answered with a pass that Piatti didn’t catch and a shot by Víctor López that Adán refused to corner. The white and blue team didn’t play bad but in some occasions they should have had more patients.
The match carried on without many opportunities. The two teams had problems to create attack options but Espanyol improved hen José Antonio Reyes got in the field. However, when the local goal was closer Rubén Castro took advantage of a very doubtful penalty to score the first goal of the match. Espanyol reacted and Javi Fuego scored to get the draw. And, in the last minute, José Antonio Reyes created a great shot to beat Adán and give the three points to Espanyol.
