2-1: Comeback against the leaders
RCD Espanyol B earn a big win against league leaders Hércules thanks to a revitalised second half display
RCD Espanyol B came from behind to earn a massive 2-1 win over Hércules CF on Sunday.
In their second game of 2024 at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque, the young pericos hosted the league leaders who, in the 10th minute, capitalised on an error which put it on the plate for Hércules to take the lead. Espanyol reacted well, having a clear chance through Roger Martínez and went into the break with a 1-0 deficit, albeit with all to play for in the second half.
In the second half, Manolo González brought on Roger Hinojo and Omar Sadik, a key double change to swing the momentum of the match. Sadik was straight off the mark, drawing Espanyol level five minutes after his introduction from a free kick.
The Moroccan youth international was not done, and just shy of the hour mark he got his second goal in quick succession, beating the goalkeeper with a half-turned shot from inside the area.
With Espanyol, Hercules barely generated any danger, apart from a play in the final stretch that ended in a corner. The hosts ground out a deserved victory and a crucial one of that, making it 10 points from the last 12 available ahead of next week’s visit to relegation battlers La Nucía.
