2-0: Two key moments
Villarreal imposes his quality to defeat a great Espanyol
Espanyol did one of the best matches away from home, as Quique Sanchez Flores recognised in the press conference. Despite of the good attitude of the parakeets, who improved in the second half against a Champions League team, Villarreal used his big quality to win the match.
Home team controlled the first minutes, but Espanyol was well ordered in the defence. In fact, the counterattack was the best tool to threat Andrés Fernández. Piatti made a powerful shot and the referee annul a goal from Gerard Moreno. Nevertheless, arriving to the half-time, Roberto Soriano scored the first goal in a disorder play in Diego Lopez’s area.
In the resumption, Espanyol was tactically deeper. Aarón Martín progressed constantly on the left wing, but his centres did not find any teammate. The white & blue team tried to equal the game but Bakambú, ten minutes before the end, made the second one with a hard shot, touching to the goal bar.
