2-0: Table-topping victory
RCD Espanyol Femení go top of the league after Fundación Albacete Femenino
RCD Espanyol Femení returned to the top of the league with a 2-0 win over Albacete Fundación Femenino on Sunday.
Adrián González was looking to end on a high at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque, in what would be his final match in charge before departing the Club. Espanyol started strong out of the gates, with María Barquero dragging her effort wide early on.
Albacete would get forward but were unable to produce any tests for Romane Salvador in goal, as it remained goalless at half-time. Espanyol kept pushing in the second half, driving through the midfield and coming close from the corners. The opener finally came in the 73rd minute, as Carol Marín’s shot was deflected in to spark euphoria at the Dani Jarque.
With the lead came momentum for the pericas, and the second goal followed five minutes later when Aina Duran swept in the rebound to give the team peace of mind in the final stretch of the game. The outcome was calmer when the visitors were reduced to ten players, Amparo Delgado shown her marching orders late on.
Espanyol saw out a vital victory that sees them return to the top of the Primera Federación Femenina, while coach González bows out on a high with three points and leaving Espanyol Femení where they deserve to be: top of the league.
