2-0: Defeat on the road
RCD Espanyol fall to defeat away to Real Oviedo
RCD Espanyol were beaten 2-0 away from home to Real Oviedo on Friday.
For the first of three games in seven days, Luis Miguel Ramis’ men were at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere on a rainy Friday night, searching for a first away win under their new head coach. It was Oviedo who started on top to back up their solid home form, getting in on goal and testing Fernando Pacheco early on through Borja Bastón and Luismi.
Espanyol’s first real chance came from Marcus Braithwaite’s long shot that the keeper parried away, while Javi Puado could not head it in from the rebound. Oviedo would not need to wait long after that to get on the scoresheet, going in front via Masca’s header.
Edu Expósito almost got the better of Leo Román before the break, but his effort flew into the wrong side of the net as the Mágico went into half-time trailing. Ramis called on Óscar Gil and Álvaro Aguado from the bench to get Espanyol back into it, but the hosts were keeping it compact at the back with no way through.
Opportunities came far and few for Espanyol in the second half, and though they began well any sort of threat faded out thanks to the opposition’s defensive organisation. Oviedo would wrap it up in stoppage time with Santiago Colombatto’s strike to seal the win, leaving Espanyol to head home empty handed on a difficult evening in Asturias.
