2-0: Aduriz sentences
The striker scored twice for Athletic that won the match
Quique Sánchez Flores introduced many changes in his line up to play against Athletic Club. In fact, the coach put on the pitch some players like Marc Roca, Melendo, Álvaro o Víctor Álvarez that haven’t played much this season. Many players of the team made from our Academy. The match started well for Espanyol that wanted to surprise Athletic. Therefore, after a good start the locals began to have the ball and they created the first chances of the game. Aduriz, that looks younger every year, gave the first advice with a good header. Diego Reyes answered with a good chance.
The first problem arrived when Víctor Sánchez fouled Muniain and the referee gave a penalty that Aduriz converted. Espanyol suffered after the goal but little by little started to do better and have more the ball. Álvaro had a great opportunity with a free kick that went close the post. The blue and white team tried to get the draw and when they were doing better, Athletic got the second goal of the match after a very doubtful fault. David López was close to score but Kepa made an incredible save.
Quique did two changes in the half time and decided to put Hernán and Jurado instead of the young Marc Roca and Melendo. The best opportunity for the visitors was a header by Piatti that went out. Espanyol kept looking for the second but Qique’s boys didn’t find the way.
