1-3: Femení earn cup victory
Espanyol progress to Copa de la Reina second round
RCD Espanyol Femení beat CD Pradejón 3-1 in the Copa de la Reina on Tuesday night.
Espanyol travelled to La Rioja to open the Spanish Cup campaign away to Pradejón. They started the game well from the first minute, striking first after 11 minutes as Natalia Fernández took advantage of a defensive error to take the lead.
Cristina Baudet came close to doubling the scoreline with an effort from the edge of the box, and moments later Pradejón equalised through Pol Cid.
Espanyol stayed focused despite being pulled back in the scoreline, and it would be just 10 minutes before restoring their advantage. Natalia found herself with another opportunity, as she was played through by Luzu to restore the blanquiazules’ lead.
The second half began in challenging fashion when goalkeeper Mar Segarra was injured after a clash with a Pradejón player. Emily Dolan was called into action and came on to replace her, with the score remaining 2-1 for the visitors.
That would not last long though, as Espanyol extended their lead thanks to Luzu to make it three and all but seal a spot in the second round.
A very competitive match concluded in a comprehensive victory for Espanyol, booking their place in the next round of the Copa de la Reina. They return to Primera RFEF Femenina action on Sunday when they make the trip down to face Córdoba CF.
