RCD Espanyol Femení fall at home to Granada CF
RCD Espanyol Femení lost 3-1 at home to a clinical Granada CF in their early Sunday kick-off, despite taking the lead early on at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque.
The start of the game was back and forth. After ten minutes, from their first chance of note, Espanyol made it 1-0, as Nayadet Opazo took advantage of a rebound off the goalkeeper's from Judit Pablos' backheel, tucking the ball into the net.
Shortly after, on 17 minutes, Granada equalised with their first opportunity of the match. The second exchange of scoring chances included a well-worked move between Adriana Martín, Carol Marín and Daniela Caracas that ended in a corner and, two minutes later, Granada's response that María Pi saved with a good stop.
The first half ended 1-1, and in the second half Granada turned the scoreline around completely, taking the lead in the 48th minute. The visitors were much more comfortable aftergoing ahead, but still faced shots like that from Adriana that went very close to the top corner.
On the next move, from a similar chance at the other end, Granada made it 3-1 and sealed the win. The result means that Espanyol Femení can no longer reach the play-offs, as the focus now turns to securing their spot in the second tier for next season.
